Absent Healing
Healing that takes place when the healer is not in direct contact with the person to be healed.
Absent Sitter (Proxy Sitter)
A person not present during a sitting, on whose behalf readings are given.
After Life
A continued life or existence believed to follow death. The afterlife is the belief that a part of, or essence of, an individual which carries with it and confers personal identity survives the death of the body of this world and this lifetime, by natural or supernatural means. (also referred to as Life After Death, the Hereafter, the Next World or the Other Side)
Agent
The person who is the focus or at the center of paranormal, psychokineses, or poltergeist activity. One who attempts to communicate information to another with ESP.
Age Of Aquarius
Usually refers to the end of an era and the beginning of another, 'the end of times' or the dawning of a 'new world order'.
Akasha
A mystical, spiritual substance where memories are stored since the beginning of time.
Alien Abduction
A form of kidnapping by aliens or extraterrestrials, where the individual is taken up to a spacecraft. Time and memory loss frequently occur and some people recall surgical investigations.
Aliens
Beings from another world, also known as extraterrestrial beings.
Altered State of Consciousness (ASC)
A term used to refer to any state of consciousness that is different from "normal" states of waking or sleeping. ASCs include hypnosis, trance, ecstasy, psychedelic and meditative experience. ASCs do not necessarily have paranormal features.
Ancestor Worship
Religious practices involving the veneration of dead ancestors.
Angel
An angel is a spiritual being found in many religions around the world. They are often regarded as messengers of God. Others believe that angels act as both messenger and protector of humanity, against the unseen evils of the world. Hence, guardian angels. Angels are almost always considered an extension of a more supreme being. Angels have been an intricate part of human religion and spirituality for as long as history has been recorded. Just as with their counterparts, angels are considered by some as a spiritual force, while others believe that angels can take physical form.
Animal Magnetism
A term coined by F.A. Mesmer to refer to a putative force or fluid capable of being transmitted from one person to another, producing healing effects. See also Mesmerism.

Paranormal abilities exhibited by animals. Also known as "Anpsi".
Announcing Dream
A dream believed to announce an individual's rebirth. See also reincarnation.
Anomalous Cognition
Anomalous cognition is a term coined by Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) to refer to ESP, including telepathy, clairvoyance, precognition and remote viewing. SAIC also refers to psychokinesis as anomalous perturbation.
Anomalous Experience (Phenomena)
A general term referring to unusual experiences that cannot be explained in terms of current scientific knowledge.
Apparition
The act of becoming visible; appearance; visibility; an apparition, more commonly referred to as a ghost, is the actual visible manifestation of a being. These are usually appearances of people or animals who are no longer living. Although There are many cases claiming the appearance of a living being to others as when they were known to be in an entirely different location. This too, could be considered an apparition. Apparitions can appear to be solid or almost transparent. Some believe that apparitions are an imprint left by the living on the atmosphere around them, that can still be seen long after their death.
Apport
A physical object which appears in a way that cannot be explained (seeming to come from nowhere).
Artefact
In parapsychology, false evidence of paranormal phenomena, due to some extraneous normal influence.
Astral Body
A term used by occultists, spiritualists and theosophists to refer to a supposed "double" of the person's physical body. The astral body is believed to be separable from the physical body during astral projection (out of body experience) and at death.
Astral Plane
A place where all thoughts, memories, fantasies and dreams of everyone in the world exist. The astral plane is said to have many levels, and is said to operate at a higher frequency than the physical plane.
Astral Projection (astral travel)
The process where our etheric body, spirit or mind separates from the physical body while maintaining a level of consciousness. An interpretation of out-of-body experience (OBE) that assumes the existence of an "astral body" separate from the physical body and capable of traveling outside it. Astral projection or travel denotes the astral body leaving the physical body to travel in the astral plane. It is associated with near death experiences, and is also frequently reported as spontaneously experienced in association with sleep and dreams, illness, surgical operations, drug experiences, sleep paralysis and forms of meditation.
Aura
Invisible to the naked eye, it is a glow surrounding each individual and changes color and form depending on the mental and physical well being of the individual.
Automatic writing
When a person can produce writing that is not their own writing style and can convey messages from the deceased. Automatic writing is writing alleged to be produced by subconscious and/or spiritual source without the writer being consciously aware about what they are writing about.
Automatism
Physical activites (e.g., arm movements, writing, drawing, musical performance) that occur without the automatist's conscious control or knowledge. Also known as motor automatism.
Autoscopy
Seeing one's "double" or looking back at one's own body from a position outside of the body (see also Astral Body).
